When the Brooklyn Nets got swept by the Boston Celtics in the first round of last year's playoffs, it was clear they were not at the level needed to compete for a championship. The team looked completely disoriented, and that lack of cohesion was confirmed over the summer when Kevin Durant asked for a trade.

While Durant was ultimately not dealt, this drama carried into the start of the regular season, with Kyrie Irving being at the center of another controversy around the same time Steve Nash was let go. There were then reports that the Nets planned to hire former Celtics head coach Ime Udoka, which once again placed Brooklyn at the center of a lot of negative attention.

Since all of this, Brooklyn has found a way to turn their season around, and currently sits at second place in the Eastern Conference. Toronto Raptors guard Fred VanVleet spoke on The Old Man and the Three Podcast about Brooklyn's turnaround, and just how different they look now.

"About Brooklyn, we played them earlier and we played them recently, the game has changed completely to where it's not [heavy isolation basketball]," VanVleet said. "The great teams in the league are playing great f--king team basketball. And that's the biggest difference that I've seen, especially this year. Because we played Brooklyn when they looked like they didn't wanna be there, and they hated each other, and Steve [Nash] was there, and you could tell it was messed up. Then we played them recently and it was like they were on a rhythm and a clock and everyone is bought in."
