PHOENIX -- The Phoenix Suns are set to host the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday, a matchup that will have playoff implications up and down the Western Conference Standings as the regular season draws to a close.

Western Conference Scenarios (Sunday April 7)

  • Golden State clinches a top ten seed with a win OR Houston Rockets loss
  • Warriors lock into play-in game with a loss AND Rockets loss OR with a win/Phoenix Suns win
  • Houston is eliminated with a loss OR a Warriors win
  • Los Angeles Clippers clinch playoff spit with win AND New Orleans Pelicans loss

There's plenty of stake here, and a win/loss by either New Orleans or Phoenix could help shape the postseason future of the West:

The Rockets are clinging on for dear life, as they need a win and a Warriors loss today to stay alive in the postseason hunt as the West's No. 11 seed. Golden State hosts the Utah Jazz later on Sunday while the Dallas Mavericks host Houston.

The Clippers host the Cleveland Cavaliers. Los Angeles will be rooting for a Suns win today. The two sides will face each other for a double-header on Tuesday/Wednesday.

Phoenix would add some much needed cushion over the Pelicans with a win, holding the No. 6 seed and steadying what would be essentially a three-game advantage over New Orleans with the season tie-breaker in their favor.

Suns-Pelicans will tip at just past 3:00 PM Arizona time.
