Former Detroit Pistons Veteran Signs With Eastern Conference Team

Former Detroit Pistons forward Marcus Morris has a new team.

Add another team to the collection of organizations to employ former Detroit Pistons forward Marcus Morris.

A little over a month since wrapping up his stint with the Philadelphia 76ers, Marcus Morris is headed to the Cleveland Cavaliers. According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Morris joins the Cavs on a 10-Day contract.

At this point in his career, the 34-year-old doesn’t have time to waste. Being in the NBA since 2011, Morris has proven himself to be a valuable veteran in the right situation. Still searching for his first NBA title, Morris was bound to land on a championship-hopeful squad after the Sixers used his contract as a way to acquire Buddy Hield at the trade deadline.

Although Morris was moved to the San Antonio Spurs, they immediately waived the veteran, allowing him to hit the open market and work on finding a contending squad to link with.

The Cavaliers place third in the Eastern Conference with a 42-25 record. In search of front court help, they’ll bring on Morris for a little over a week to find out if he’s a good fit or not.

When Morris landed in the NBA as a first-round pick for the Houston Rockets in 2011, he didn’t last there very long. During his sophomore effort, he was traded to the Phoenix Suns. After two and a half seasons out in Arizona, Morris joined the Pistons in an offseason trade in 2015.

In his first season with the Pistons, Morris started in a career-high 80 games. He averaged 14 points, five rebounds, and three assists during the year. The following season, he started in 79 games, positing similar stats. Morris’s second season with the Pistons allowed him to appear in his first playoff run, which lasted just four games in 2016. A couple of months later, he was traded to the Boston Celtics.

Since a run with the Celtics, Morris has played for the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers, and the Sixers. The Cavaliers become his eighth team this season, as he’s set to join them for their Monday night matchup against the Indiana Pacers.
