Miami Heat Sharpshooter Makes History vs. Detroit Pistons

Searching for their second-straight win over the Detroit Pistons, the Miami Heat had to take care of business while missing their star forward, Jimmy Butler.

Heading into the matchup, Butler was listed as questionable. Hours before the afternoon game tipped off, Butler was issued a night off. In his absence, the Heat needed somebody to step up and generate more offensive production. As Duncan Robinson took on that responsibility, he made NBA history in the process.

After drilling a three in the first quarter of Saturday’s game, Robinson quickly hit the 1,000th three-pointer of his career. With that, he became the fastest to 1,000 threes in NBA history, beating out Philadelphia 76ers forward Buddy Hield by seven games.

Robinson didn’t collect his accolade and take it easy on Sunday. Picking up a 35-minute shift in Detroit, Robinson took the second-most amount of shots on the Heat. He was efficient as he drained ten of his 15 attempts from the field. Seven of those makes came from deep.

By the end of the game, Robinson finished with 30 points, which marked a team-high. He also dished out five assists on the offensive end while grabbing four rebounds off the glass.

This season, Robinson has been a key contributor for Miami, appearing in 61 games. Sunday’s matchup was his 30th start of the year. While spending a little under 30 minutes on the court per outing, Robinson has averaged 13 points while shooting 46 percent from the field and draining 40 percent of his threes.

In Sunday’s game, he turned his play up a notch. As a result, the Heat ended up defeating the Pistons 104-101. It marked the third time this season Miami put the Pistons away, coming out victorious, despite being shorthanded.
