Rockets Impressed With Veteran Coach Frank Vogel

The Houston Rockets found their first strong candidate in coach Frank Vogel for their head coaching vacancy.

HOUSTON — Veteran coach Frank Vogel was the first candidate the Houston Rockets interviewed for their coaching vacancy. And according to ESPN, Vogel impressed the Rockets and is "very much in the mix."

“I’m told he was very impressive to the people in Houston...He’s going to be brought back again."

Vogel's last coaching stop came in 2019 with the Los Angeles Lakers. He went 127-98 during his three-year stint, which included leading the Lakers to the 2019-20 NBA championship.

Before his time with the Lakers, Vogel established himself as one of the top defensive coaches during his five-year run with the Indiana Pacers. He helped develop the likes of Paul George while helping the Pacers become an Eastern Conference powerhouse from 2012 to 2014.

Rockets will embark on their 16th coach in franchise history after parting ways with coach Stephen Silas on April 10.

"We want someone who has a real vision for how to implement our young guys, how to incorporate some veterans," general manager Rafael Stone said. "I think we’re looking for somebody who has kind of a dynamic presence and vision. They’re obviously going to have a new voice, and we want that voice to resonate with our group."
