Phoenix Suns Receive 'B' Offseason Grade

The Phoenix Suns have received their offseason grade from The Athletic.

Time has now begun to slow down for the world of basketball after the initial wave of free agency, and that spells the same for the Phoenix Suns

It was an eventful flurry of rumors and speculations prior to Deandre Ayton re-signing with the team, although Phoenix did manage to make a few other signings (for a full offseason breakdown, click here).

Rosters are mostly set, although a few big names such as Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and Donovan Mitchell may still be on the move. Guys in the likes of Collin Sexton still don't know their future team either.

We're still months away from basketball being played, yet the Suns (and every other team in the league) recently received offseason grades from The Athletic

Phoenix Suns: B

Doug Haller's reasoning: "While a trade for Kevin Durant hasn’t materialized, the Suns kept their core together and should enter next season as a title contender. Despite all the drama (real or speculated), Phoenix wasted little time matching the Pacers’ max offer sheet to keep Deandre Ayton in place. While Ayton struggles with consistent effort, he’s among the NBA’s top big men, and his upside remains high. Signing rising MVP candidate Devin Booker to a supermax extension was a no-brainer, and GM James Jones added bench help with Damion Lee, Jock Landale and Josh Okogie (although losing JaVale McGee could hurt.) Now about KD…"

Some would say The Athletic was fairly nice with their grading scale, as only one team (the Miami Heat at a C-grade) scored lower than a B-.

However, teams in the Brooklyn Nets, Charlotte Hornets, Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks and Utah Jazz have incomplete grades for some obvious (and other various) reasons.

Six teams (Denver, Detroit, Houston, Minnesota, Oklahoma City and Philadelphia) all scored at a level of A- or higher.
