NBA Insider Reveals Suns Expected to Cut Two Players
The Phoenix Suns were indeed part of a massive three-way trade yesterday after weeks of speculation, and after the dust settled, the organization has some trimming to do.
Phoenix sent Deandre Ayton and Toumani Camara packing to the Portland Trail Blazers while welcoming Grayson Allen from the Milwaukee Bucks and Jusuf Nurkic, Nassir Little and Keon Johnson from the Portland Trail Blazers.
Yahoo! Sports NBA insider Jake Fischer is reporting the Suns are expected to waive Johnson and Ish Wainright.
"Phoenix continues to spend, second apron be damned. While the entire NBA is steering away from the new collective bargaining agreement’s imposing limitations, the Suns actually added $1.3 million in salary and $4.8 million in luxury tax payments by taking on Nurkić, plus Allen, young swingman Nassir Little and former first-round pick Keon Johnson. The Suns, at this early juncture, are expected to waive Johnson and Ish Wainright, league sources told Yahoo Sports."
Fischer also added the Suns included Camara, "to maintain the roster flexibility for Jordan Goodwin, the only point guard on the Suns’ roster and a close friend of Bradley Beal’s following their season together in Washington."
Wainright's loss will certainly be mourned in the Valley after he's easily become a fan favorite since joining the organization in 2021. It would have been tough for him or Johnson to see any minutes at all considering Phoenix's latest roster revamp.
The Suns host their Media Day on Oct. 2 with their first preseason game coming on Oct. 8.
