Phoenix Suns center Deandre Ayton finds himself as one of the most polarizing players in the league. The former No. 1 overall pick has proven to be crazy efficient offensively as a big man and provides length + athleticism in the middle that's tough to find in today's NBA.

However, Ayton's play has fallen under heavy criticism for a multitude of reasons. Many believe he doesn't possess the coveted "mean streak" or "killer instinct" that a player of his size/caliber should. He's been labeled as soft and immature both on and off the court.

Now - after the Suns crashed and burned in another early postseason exit - speculation around Ayton's status in Phoenix will only ramp up.

ESPN's Tim MacMahon says the Suns are expected to "aggressively" pursue a trade market for him in the summer.

"Ayton would be excited about a fresh start with another franchise, sources told ESPN. The Suns are expected to aggressively explore the trade market for him this summer, league sources said.

"Although Ayton had a disappointing series against Denver -- getting benched down the stretch of the Suns' Game 3 win and frequently dominated by two-time MVP center Nikola Jokic -- league sources expect several teams to show interest in acquiring the 24-year-old, who averaged 18.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game this season."

In a media availability with reporters following Game 6 against Denver, Ayton said he loves Phoenix.

“I love Phoenix, man,” said Ayton, who had a meeting with Suns GM James Jones according to Duane Rankin.

“I’m going to continue playing hard for Phoenix and keep representing. I don’t listen to the outside noise. I’m here, I’m happy. We didn’t finish how we wanted to, but there’s always next year. This summer is just more work.”

Ayton and the Suns initially failed to reach a contract extension last season, which led him to testing free agency as a restricted free agent. The Indiana Pacers signed Ayton to an offer sheet - which Phoenix matched instantly.

Ayton initially had a no-trade clause in his contract for the first year of his new deal. Phoenix reportedly had multiple trade talks surrounding Ayton through the previous years.
