The Phoenix Suns made it interesting down the stretch in their 123-112 loss to the Golden State Warriors, though it was a wire-to-wire victory for the defending NBA champions.

The Suns (37-31) now have lost consecutive games for the first time since middle January after a four-game losing streak. Golden State (36-33) prevents the Suns from a season sweep after winning the final of four matchups vs Phoenix.

The Warriors were able to notch a second consecutive victory on the shoulders of Klay Thompson, who finished with 38 points on 8-14 shooting from downtown. He finished just shy of his fifth 40-point game this season despite just five points scored in the second quarter.

Golden State came out of the gates fairly hot by scoring 43 points in the first quarter - the most the Suns have given up in a single quarter all season. The Warriors carried a 75-58 lead into the locker room at halftime after a combined 48 points from Thompson and Steph Curry, the highest amount in a half by the splash bros this season according to ESPN Stats and Info.

In what felt like a controlled game, the Suns slowly but surely crept back into the mix. With just under four minutes in the third quarter, Phoenix got the lead down to three before Golden State was able to pull away and maintain control until the end.

They led by as much as 25 on the night and never trailed.

Still without Kevin Durant, Devin Booker again led the Suns in scoring with 32, his fifth game of 30+ points in the last six outings. Deandre Ayton also tallied 27 points and 12 rebounds.

Phoenix shot a dismal 19% (4-21) from three-point land.

The Suns return to Phoenix for the second night of a back-to-back when the Milwaukee Bucks visit town.
