Suns Favored in Season Opener vs. Mavericks

In this story:
The Phoenix Suns are ready to put a rather eventful offseason behind them.
Oddsmakers believe they'll do just that.
On SI Sportsbook, the Suns are -4.5-point favorites to defeat the visiting Dallas Mavericks in Game 1 of the 2022-23 regular season.
The two rosters will look very familiar since the last time the two squads met in the second round of the postseason last year, although there are a few changes.
Cameron Johnson has now been bumped to starting duties with Jae Crowder waiting to find a new team.
JaVale McGee, who played for Phoenix last season, returns to the Footprint Center with the Mavericks.
Dallas won't have Jalen Brunson but did add Christian Wood to the lineup.
Minor changes shouldn't take away from the Luka Doncic-Devin Booker narrative, but we'll see how the supporting cast can help each respective superstar.
Last season, the Mavericks had one of the top records against the spread (57-41-2), covering 58.2% of the time. Phoenix wasn't too far behind at 51-44 (53.7%).
Yet it's a new season, and although neither squad is favored to emerge as NBA champions, both have high hopes of a deep run into the postseason.
