Preview: Suns Face Warriors in Primetime Duel

PHOENIX -- The Phoenix Suns (31-21) are looking to extend their current three-game win streak as the Golden State Warriors (24-25) play host tonight at Chase Center.

The Suns are looking for a season sweep over the Warriors tonight- a feat the franchise hasn't achieved since the 2010-11 season - and a feat that could signify a paradigm shift in power on the West coast.

Chris Paul will be out for Golden State, while Bradley Beal is probable and Devin Booker is set to play after missing the victory over the Utah Jazz on Thursday night.

Three storylines going into tonight:

Warriors: Rapidly Improving

The Warriors hit a low point in their season following a 116-107 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Jan. 15.

The Warriors fell to 18-22 on the season - the most games below .500 that the franchise had been since after going 6-3 in the ensuing three weeks to inject life into a squad that desperately needed hope for the postseason.

There's certainly still work to do, as the Warriors still sit outside of the play-in standings and don't have much of a path forward to getting into the top six in the standings, but Golden State is in a strong position to make noise nonetheless.

Suns: Looking for Season Sweep

The Suns' struggles against the dynastic Warriors is understandable, but it's truly shocking that Phoenix hasn't secured a season sweep since the 2010-11 season.

Phoenix has gone a paltry 16-30 against the Warriors since 2013-14 - the season that's widely regarded as the breakout season for the Warriors' dynasty.

A Suns' season sweep over a team hovering around .500 may seem insignificant on the surface, but it truly could be the first sign that the power is shifting on the West coast - especially with the Los Angeles Lakers struggling as well.

The Suns now have a former Warriors' star in Kevin Durant, secured Eric Gordon this past summer - who Golden State heavily coveted - and have a franchise player in Devin Booker that is rapidly ascending as a superstar talent - much like Stephen Curry many years ago.

The Suns can make a statement tonight.

Warriors: Embracing Youth Movement

The Warriors have been in an odd position the last two years since their most recent title in 2022.

Key core members Draymond Green and Klay Thompson aren't the players they used to be, but it's obviously difficult to move off of players that were that integral to long-term success along with the contract obligations both pose.

The Warriors have also had a tough time fully integrating young talent in recent seasons - players such as Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, and even Jordan Poole weren't able to consistently grow in the situation.

Warriors' head coach Steve Kerr finally committed to relying on the young core more as of late, and is being rewarded for making that move.

Moody has only played in six contests since the turn of the new year, but has contributed positively in a number of games. Brandin Podziemski has been a pleasant surprise and a contender for an All-Rookie team honor. Trayce Jackson-Davis has stepped in and been effective when given opportunity.

Jonathan Kuminga has been the biggest revelation of all - as Kuminga is averaging 23.3 PPG over the last ten games and has established himself as a sleeper candidate for the NBA Most Improved Player award over the last month.

Suns-Warriors is set to tip shortly after 8:30 EST/6:30 AZT tonight. The game will be an ABC exclusive broadcast.
