PHOENIX -- Changes were promised after Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia took over. Not even a full 48 hours into his first offseason running the team, and those words have proven to be true.

Reports are now flooding the NBA world after the Suns made the decision to fire Monty Williams after five years of service. Williams took over in 2019 and saw success right away, beginning with the team's 8-0 run in the infamous bubble.

The following year, the Suns went all the way to the 2021 NBA Finals after acquiring Chris Paul but ultimately stumbled after emerging to a 2-0 lead. The following season, Phoenix set a franchise record with 64 regular season wins before again losing a 2-0 lead, this time in the second round of play.

This postseason again saw the Suns depart after winning just one series in the postseason, and Phoenix decided it was time for a change.

Well, apparently Mat Ishbia himself decided that.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported shortly after Williams' dismissal that it was indeed Ishbia who pulled the trigger on that move.

"New owner Mat Ishbia made decision to fire Williams, who has been the winningest coach in NBA since 2021. Suns have a starry but top-heavy roster with little cap flexibility this summer. The Suns will compete in coaching marketplace with Milwaukee and Toronto now," said Woj in a Tweet.

On his own Twitter account, Ishbia said the following after his loss.

"Thank you for an unbelievable few months and a very special start to my experience as team owner/steward. You welcomed me and my family and have been awesome every step of the way. You are the absolute greatest fans in all of basketball.

"While we have a lot to be proud of this year, we did not reach the level of success all of us want, which is a championship. We won’t win a championship every season, but it will always be the goal. The @Suns will never stop working to be great both on and off the court, and we are just getting started.

"Look forward to being with all of you at @PhoenixMercury games this summer and thank you again for an incredible first season!"

The Suns now join the Toronto Raptors and Milwaukee Bucks as teams searching for a new head coach this offseason.

Ishbia is still very early in his first offseason as an owner, but he's already started the process of molding the team to his liking. The first domino came tonight, with more promised to fall throughout the next few weeks.
