Michael Jordan, the Jordan brand, and Nike have committed to donating $100 million over the next ten years to fight racial injustice. MJ also released his own statement on May 31st through the Jordan brand Twitter after the death of George Floyd saying, in part, "I stand with those who are calling out the ingrained racism and violence towards people of color in our country. We have had enough." Quierra Luck, the managing editor for SI's UNC Tar Heels team site, joined SI's Corey Parson to discuss the donation and MJ's history of giving.

Video Transcript:

Corey Parson: Michael Jordan, Jordan brand, and Nike will donate $100 million to racial equality. I'm Corey Parson with SI.com joining me for more on this story is Carolina Tar Heel insider Quierra Luck what exactly is going on down there with this story?

Quierra Luck: Hi, Corey. So Michael Jordan, Jordan brand, and Nike have committed to $100 million over the next 10 years to help fight racial injustice and provide economic equality to the black community.

Corey Parson: Now, we've seen ESPN's presentation of 'The Last Dance' recently. And I always talk about Michael Jordan in those times. Let me ask you this: What else has Michael Jordan been doing post-retirement?

Quierra Luck: He has been really huge in the North Carolina community, especially with him being the head of the Charlotte Hornets. Just recently, a couple of years ago, Carolina has a really tough hurricane season sometimes. And he donated $2 million to families in Wilmington and fed them Thanksgiving dinner. And he went back to the Boys and Girls Club that he grew up in and gave them Jordan brand shoes. A couple of weeks before that, he also gave $7 million to at-risk medical clinics in Charlotte, North Carolina. Charlotte happens to be one of the top cities where kids end up poor, so he wanted to help change that narrative for those communities in Charlotte.
