Steph Curry Shows Support for GM Bob Myers During Final Months of Contract

Warriors GM Bob Myers' contract expires very soon.

The Golden State Warriors are arguably going to have one of the most interesting off-seasons in the NBA. The team has a huge looming contract situation with both GM Bob Myers and Draymond Green. In the case of Myers, his contract reportedly expires in just a short few months at the end of June.

Steph Curry appeared on the NBC Sports Bay Area “Dubs Talk” podcast where he loudly expressed his support for Warriors GM Bob Myers.

“We were all young at one point when we were trying to figure it out,” Curry said. “One of his special abilities is to connect with you where you are. Be truthful and honest and authentic about how difficult the NBA is in the sense of decisions that are made and the business side of it. But also, he has a personal touch that you trust.”

Myers has a special relationship with the players on his team, one where they trust him wholeheartedly because of how candid he is. That's something very few players have with the front offices of their team.

“I don’t ever take that for granted,” Curry said. “The fact that I can have a difficult conversation with him. I can pick up the phone and let him know how I’m feeling. He’ll give it to me straight around where we are as a team or where I am individually.”

Both Bob Myers and head coach Steve Kerr have been invaluable to the Golden State Warriors' success in the last decade. Without Myers, the team likely doesn't have their amazing trio of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, or Draymond Green. It feels like forever ago, but the team was actually at a crossroads of potentially keeping Monta Ellis instead of Steph Curry in 2012.

“I don’t know how you can decide (Myers’ role) in the championships and banners and all that, putting together a great team,” Curry said. “I recognize the extreme value he’s brought in just managing people. Very similar to coach Kerr in the way that they communicate.”

It's unknown where Bob Myers will go at the end of the season when his contract expires. There have been reports of the Clippers being interested in Myers, but there are so many dominoes that need to fall before that happens. It's one step at a time for the Warriors, and that first step is securing an NBA Championship this season.
