Steve Kerr Reveals Decision For Controversial Lineup Change

Steve Kerr revealed why he benched Klay Thompson.

Warriors fans weren't sure if head coach Steve Kerr was going to bench Klay Thompson this season, but they knew a change had to be made to the starting lineup. Kerr ultimately made the decision on Thursday night and revealed why he finally decided to do it after the game.

“I've been thinking about it,” Kerr said. “The lineup with Brandin out there with Wiggs, JK, Draymond and Steph has been by far our best lineup. BP connects the game. He rebounds, he does some things that really help the other guys."

Brandin Podziemsky has been a tremendous glue guy with the Warriors starting lineup, doing all the little things to make winning plays. It's something that everyone can see and definitely deserves more exploration. The hard part was convincing Klay Thompson to come off the bench, which Kerr revealed that Klay handled perfectly.

“I've been thinking about it, decided to do it tonight and talked to Klay this morning. I thought he handled everything beautifully.”

However, it's important to note that Steve Kerr has tinkered with his starting lineups all season. Some games had Draymond Green off the bench, some games had Kuminga off the bench, and because of that, he wants to remind everyone that this change isn't necessarily permanent.

“It doesn't mean it's permanent,” Kerr said. “But I like that lineup with BP and the other four. And Klay coming off the bench gives us a lot of firepower. We'll give it a little look and we'll see how it goes from there.”

Right now, the lineup change worked perfectly as planned. The only thing left to see is how it'll keep looking moving forward.
