Steve Kerr Reveals Reason for Benching Brandon Ingram
Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is also coaching Team USA in FIBA World Cup play this summer. With a talented roster full of high-level NBA players, Kerr has difficult decisions to make. Recently moving New Orleans Pelicans star Brandon Ingram to the bench, Kerr spoke on why he chose to make that move.
"We just wanted to look at some different lineups," Kerr said. "The tricky part with FIBA is you only have a few weeks to figure out your team. As opposed to an NBA season hen you have six, seven, eight months. We just felt like it was important to take a look at Josh [Hart] with the starting group, and Brandon [Ingram] with the next group and see if the combinations fit. I liked what I saw… So we'll see, we haven’t made any decisions going forward, but we just wanted to look at some different things."
Rather than singling out Ingram's play, Kerr revealed that he wanted to see how Hart fit in the starting lineup, while also seeing how Ingram fit with the second group. Liking what he saw, Kerr has stuck with that same lineup change for consecutive games now, and will likely continue to roll it out.
Team USA has looked sharp so far in World Cup play, and will look to stay hot as they push towards a medal.
