Warriors Make Shocking Lineup Change Before Game 4 vs. Lakers

In this story:
Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has never been hesitant to make starting lineup changes in the postseason. Having made several already in this playoff run, Kerr is making another starting lineup change prior to Game 4 vs. the Los Angeles Lakers, inserting Gary Payton II into the starting lineup.
Gary Payton II expected to enter Warriors starting lineup in that roving fifth spot, per @ShamsCharania. His minutes have fluctuated in these playoffs. https://t.co/Sy5pVfbVF6

Payton will observe the spot previously occupied by JaMychal Green for Games 2 and 3. Green did well in Game 2, knocking down open shots, but struggled in Game 3. Kevon Looney had that fifth starter spot to open the series, but has been a tough fit on both ends against this Lakers team.
The move to start Payton is surprising, since he has played very little in this series; however, it makes sense. The Lakers got a hot start from D'Angelo Russell last game, who carried their offense in the first half. The insertion of Payton into the starting lineup gives Golden State another defensive option on Russell, which allows their other guards to have less of a defensive burden.
Payton is also a unique option offensively, as he can serve as the roll-man despite being a smaller guard. His athleticism makes him a threat on the roll, which is something Golden State has tapped into at times both this season and last postseason.
In a crucial Game 4, the Warriors are making a big time adjustment.
