New York Knicks’ Brunson, Quickley Too Much For Washington Wizards To Handle

The Wizards would make a run in the third quarter but it just wasn’t enough

The New York Knicks defeated the Washington Wizards 120-99 last night at Capital One Arena. The Knicks led by as much as 23 points in the game.

Looking at the numbers, the teams were evenly matched in most areas. The key differences being the Knicks out-rebounded the Wizards 48-32, they continued to shoot better from three-point range, and they finished with 17 second chance points to the Wizards nine.

Two other key differences were the offensive performances of Knicks’ guards Jalen Brunson (32 points) and Immanuel Quickley (27 points). While the Wizards had their defensive moments throughout the game finishing with four steals and four blocks, the offensive talent of Brunson and Quickley was simply better than the Wizards in this game.

In the second half, the Wizards had five turnovers which was better than the nine they accumulated in the first half.

Typically the Wizards struggle in the third quarter but they attempted a comeback outscoring the Knicks 30-24. After a few mental lapses in the fourth, the Knicks would end up closing the game out with the win.

Kyle Kuzma would finish the game with 19 points and five assists. Daniel Gafford led the Wizards in rebounds with seven.

Here are some other observations to note:

Wizards forward Deni Avdija had a strong overall performance. He contributed offensively and defensively for the Wizards last night. The progression in his overall game is certainly being noticed.

Wizards rookie Bilal Coulibaly continues to impress and show the flashes of exactly why this team’s leadership drafted him. His defensive savvy, if continued to be developed and enhanced will be a force to reckoned with.

Wizards guard Jordan Poole would finish the game with eight points but also had five turnovers. Poole is clearly disappointed with his own play but this team is going to need him to alleviate the carelessness and mental mistakes if they want to be competitive at all this season.
