Free Agent Running Backs

DeAngelo Williams

With the lockout lifted on Monday and teams eligible to jump into the free-agent market on Friday, unsigned players who have accrued more than four years in the NFL will be eligible. With that in mind, here's a look at some of the running backs available. NFC South opponents know how tough it is to slow down DeAngelo Williams. Before this past season was cut short by a foot injury, Williams rushed for more than 2,600 yards and 25 touchdowns in the two previous seasons.

Ahmad Bradshaw

Bradshaw could be the best franchise running back on the free agent table. He's dangerously good and incredibly tough to bring down, but he struggles with holding onto the football (seven fumbles compared to his eight TDs last season). If there's a good RB coach at his next home who can teach him to protect the pigskin, he could be unstoppable.

Ronnie Brown

While his rushing numbers were low this past season, he's a dual threat on offense. He rushed for five scores but also averaged 7.3 yards per catch last year for the Dolphins.

Cedric Benson

The Bengals back has rushed for more than 1,100 yards in each of the past two seasons, but seven of his career 14 fumbles came in 2010.

BenJarvus Green-Ellis

Knowing the Patriots, there's no way this guy actually makes it to the free-agent market. Green-Ellis just had a spectacular season after going undrafted three years ago. He led the Pats with 1,008 yards and 13 rushing touchdowns.

Joseph Addai

Addai only played in eight games this season and rushed for 495 yards, but he hasn't enjoyed nearly the same success that he did in his first two seasons with the Colts coming out of LSU.

Darren Sproles

Sproles played in all 16 games but only had 50 carries. So why is he even on this list? He averaged 24.6 yards per kick return last year.

Tim Hightower

Hightower isn't scoring as much as he used to for the Cardinals, but he averaged nearly five yards per carry last season.

Michael Bush

Eight rushing touchdowns and no fumbles in 2010 for Bush.

Leon Washington

Washington had 27 carries and one rushing touchdown in 2010, but he's also an incredible kick returner who had three scores on 1,461 return yards.

Pierre Thomas

After a career-best 2009 season, Thomas struggled with injury last year and had only 269 yards in six games.

Cadillac Williams

The 2005 offensive rookie of the year hasn't been the same since a knee injury that same season. Williams was demoted near the end of 2010 as LeGarrette Blount took over starting duties with the Bucs.
