NFL still undecided on Terrelle Pryor's status

The NFL released its preliminary list of players eligible for the Aug. 17 supplemental draft and, at least for now, Terrelle Pryor's name wasn't on it.

Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network tweeted that Pryor was not one of the two players approved for the draft -- Georgia's Caleb King is one of them, the second is unknown publicly at the moment -- but a final determination has not yet been made on Pryor's status for the 2011 season.

Pryor's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, responded via Twitter that "We spoke with the NFL today and were told that no decision has been made yet regarding Terrelle's eligibility for the supplemental draft."

King's inclusion in the supplemental draft will be sure to raise some eyebrows if Pryor's blocked. The former Georgia running back was ruled academically ineligible for the 2011 college football season, forcing him to go the NFL route a year earlier than planned.

Without inclusion in the supplemental draft, Pryor would be down to the UFL, CFL or simply sitting out 2011 as his options. He would be eligible for the 2012 NFL Draft but not before, and he's burned any college routes he could have pursued by signing with an agent.

It would be the same spot Mike Williams and Maurice Clarett, another former Buckeye, found themselves in back in 2004 -- both turned pro, then were denied entry into the NFL Draft under the rule that a player must be three years removed from high school before being drafted. Clarett and Williams sat out the 2004 season, then were drafted in 2005.
