An abbreviated look at what’s going on around the NFL on Tuesday, Aug. 16:

Raiders fullback Marcel Reese saw an expanded role in the team's offense last season, and he's hoping Oakland keeps feeding him the ball in 2011.

• John Beck, healthy after missing the Redskins' preseason opener with a groin injury, will start over Rex Grossman at Indianapolis Friday. Grossman went 19 for 26 for 207 yards and a touchdown in Washington's win over Pittsburgh last week.

• Wide receiver Eric Decker had six catches in his rookie season with the Broncos. But if his stellar play in camp so far is any indication, that number could soar this year.

Titans head coach Mike Munchak said that despite Jake Locker's impressive preseason debut, Matt Hasselbeckis the team's starting QB for the foreseeable future.

• Rookie WR Randall Cobb has made the Packers take notice with his performance so far this preseason. He's already penciled in as a return man for the defending Super Bowl champs but could earn his way into the receiver rotation, too.

• Undrafted rookie safety Ricardo Silva out of Hampton faces an uphill battle to make the Lions' roster. He had an interception in the preseason opener, though, and could be on the verge of overcoming those long odds.

• The Patriots worked out a pair of safeties Monday, leading to speculation that Brandon Meriweather may be on the trade block.
