An abbreviated look at what’s going on around the NFL on Monday, Aug. 29:

• The Colts took a shot this free agent period on three players looking to rejuvenate their NFL careers: Ernie Sims, Tommie Harris and Jamaal Anderson. All three are finally starting to show something on the field.

Robert Quinn had to sit out the entire 2010 NCAA season, so by the time the preseason started, it had been a full year since he'd played football competitively. But Quinn is quickly shaking off the rust.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh won't confirm that rookie Tyrod Taylor has won the backup QB job behind Joe Flacco, though Taylor has played well enough this preseason to earn that role.

• Defensive end Carlos Dunlap had a stellar rookie season for Cincinnati, and he's trying to get back from a knee injury in time to make an even bigger impact in 2011.

Taiwan Jones was a virtual unknown heading into the 2011 draft out of Eastern Washington. He's quickly opened some eyes in Oakland and carved out a spot in the Raiders' backfield.

• Undrafted rookie WR Dane Sanzenbacher was a longshot to make Chicago's roster this season. The former Ohio State wide receiver has bucked those odds so far and looks like he'll survive roster cuts.
