Lions, Bears fight after Matthew Stafford interception

The Lions and Bears have a long and heated rivalry, so it's no surprise to see the two teams exchange a few extra pleasantries during a game. But things nearly spiraled out of control Sunday, during Chicago's 37-13blowout victory. (box score | recap)

Early in the fourth quarter, after Matthew Stafford fired his third of four interceptions -- two of which were run back for touchdowns -- a scuffle broke out in front of the Lions' bench, with several Bears players running across the field to join the fray.

The problems started during Tim Jennings' runback on the interception. As Chicago's D.J. Moore blocked Stafford, the Lions' QB grabbed Moore by the facemask and threw him to the ground. Moore retaliated by leveling Stafford, who was picking himself off the Soldier Field turf at that point.

A host of Lions players jumped in to defend their quarterback, but the refs somewhat miraculously managed to get things under control before it escalated further.

Moore was given a 15-yard penalty for unnecessary roughness and ejected. He's one of several players likely facing fines for their actions in this game. Detroit's Nick Fairley leads the rest of the list for his personal foul against Jay Cutler in the third quarter. Chicago's Lance Briggs also drew a 15-yard penalty for a high hit on Calvin Johnson, and Brandon Meriweather later shook up Johnson with an apparent helmet-to-helmet shot as both players went up for what would be Stafford's fourth interception.

Early in the game, Ndamukong Suh avoided a penalty when he ripped the helmet off Cutler on a tackle.
