Redskins LB Fletcher's streak in danger once again
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) London Fletcher's consecutive games streak is in danger once again.
"A short week doesn't help," Fletcher said. "That's my main concern, that I have three less days to try to give myself some time to heal, things like that. The only thing I can do is get as much treatment as possible, let the training staff do their thing and see how I feel in pregame and whether I'm able to go or not. That'll pretty much be the deal."
Fletcher was hurt in Sunday's 31-6 win over the Philadelphia Eagles and was wearing a walking boot Monday. He had the ankle wrapped in black tape while speaking to reporters Tuesday.
Fletcher, 37, has never missed a game in his 15-year NFL career and has appeared in 234 in a row, tying him with Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive back Ronde Barber for the longest active streak.
There have been a few close calls. Fletcher's availability was in doubt prior to last month's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers after he missed practices with head and hamstring injuries, but he nevertheless started the game and played all 61 defensive snaps.
"There's a reason why he's played all those games - because he plays when he's hurt," coach Mike Shanahan said. "Hopefully he'll be able to play."
