Anatomy of a Sack: On the first play of the fourth quarter in the Week 4 game against Cleveland, Atkins lines up in the gap between guard John Greco (77) and left tackle Joe Thomas (73), who appears to be cheating toward Atkins. (All photos courtesy NFL Rewind)
At the snap, Thomas shifts to pick up defensive end Michael Johnson, and Atkins attacks in the vacated space.
Leveraging his squat, powerful, 300-pound frame against the 6-4 Greco, Atkins pushes the blocker’s arm off him and turns Greco inside.
Greco beaten, Atkins has a free shot at quarterback Brian Hoyer and spins him down.
Atkins’s second sack of the day is a bright spot in a 17–6 loss that would have him more focused than ever on the Patriots the following week.
