Anatomy of a Sack II: On the second play of the Week 5 game against New England, Atkins set up in the gap between guard Logan Mankins (70) and left tackle Nate Solder (77). (All pictures Courtesy NFL Rewind)
Both lines flow in the same direction for what appears to be a run to the right.
Two steps into the play, Atkins follows his assignment and slides between Solder and Mankins, playing the pass.
Solder, who’d never faced Atkins before, is beaten by Atkins’ surprising speed and fails to cut him off.
Against lesser linemen, Brady has a free shot downfield when New England runs this play.
Not this time, though: Atkins introduces himself to the quarterback.
Tom, meet Geno.
The early sack sets the tone for a defensive battle in which the Bengals sack Brady four times in a 13–6 Cincinnati win.
