Cleveland Browns to unveil new, 'cutting-edge' uniforms next year

Move over Tampa Bay. Cleveland is also set to join the new-wave uniform craze.

On CBS Cleveland's Bull & Fox Tuesday, team president Alec Scheiner was asked whether the Browns could follow the Buccaneers' lead -- Tampa Bay unveiled new, futuristic uniforms on  Monday -- with their new uniforms, set to be unveiled in 2015. He said that the Browns new uniforms would be future-leaning, but that they'll maintain a "link" to the team's history.

"We’ll have cutting-edge uniforms that link back to our history. So I don’t want to speak about the Bucs’ uniforms, but I’m really excited about our direction. … I’ll be very surprised if our fans don’t love our new-look uniforms. I think we’re headed down a really cool path. … I don’t know exactly when [we'll unveil them], but it’ll be next year before the draft."

As ProFootballTalk noted, the Browns will be at least the sixth team to revamp their uniforms since the NFL and Nike joined up in 2012. The others include the Buccaneers, Jaguars, Seahawks, Vikings and Dolphins.

Browns owner Jimmy Haslam mentioned last March that the Browns would be unveiling new uniforms in 2015, saying that one part of the kit was untouchable.

“I will say there will be no change to the helmet,” owner Jimmy Haslam told ESPN Cleveland. “But we will look at everything else. We may change a lot. We may change a little.”
