The Pittsburgh Steelers have been working to free up as much room as possible under the salary cap in advance of free agency on Tuesday afternoon, which led to an unfortunate result for veteran linebacker LaMarr Woodley.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Monday that the Steelers plan to release Woodley and designate him as a post-June 1 cut.
He will be free to sign with a new team when the market opens in just over 24 hours.
Woodley, who is set to turn 30 years old during the 2014 season, has not played in a full season since 2010 and has failed to record double-digit sack numbers over the same period of time. He has missed a total of 14 games over the past three seasons.

By releasing Woodley, the Steelers free up $10.57 million in cap space and spread the remaining $19.76 million of his salary over the next two seasons.
The Steelers re-signed fellow outside linebacker Jason Worilds last week, so the writing was on the wall that Woodley would be handed his walking papers. He may not be the dynamic pass rusher that he once was, but he should still receive some interest from teams looking for a situational pass rusher.
