Bills fans tailgated in honor of Ralph Wilson on Sunday

Buffalo Bills fans are still mourning the loss of the team's longtime owner, Ralph Wilson, and on Sunday they showed up to honor and celebrate his life. On the first weekend since the team was founded that Wilson was not the owner, hundreds of fans convened at Ralph Wilson Stadium to tailgate and show their appreciation for what he meant to the team, according to the Buffalo News.

“This was a great way to come out and celebrate the man who brought us the Bills,” Katheryn Lanigan of Buffalo told the Buffalo News. “He’d want us to be out here celebrating, and not mourning him.”

Bills CEO Russ Brandon stopped by, taking the stage during the rally to deliver a brief message to the fans in attendance.

“I worked for Mr. Wilson for 18 years, and what he loved the most was the fans and their passion,” Brandon said. “Many people have asked how they can honor him. How can we honor him? One word. Win!”

This just goes to show that while football is just a game, it is something that can bring a community together.

The Bills mean a lot to the city of Buffalo, and Ralph Wilson was a central part of that. A few seasons of success would go a long way towards preventing the team from leaving town in the absence of its widely respected owner.
