The Detroit Lions finished the 2013-14 regular season at 7-9 and failed to make the playoffs for the 13th time in the last 14 seasons.

The Lions started off their offseason by replacing former head coach Jim Schwartz with the Baltimore Ravens' offensive coordinator, Jim Caldwell. They also gave quarterback Matthew Stafford some help by signing wide receiver Golden Tate and drafting tight end Eric Ebron of North Carolina with the No. 10 pick of the 2014 NFL draft.

The team also selected outside linebacker Kyle Van Noy, center Travis Swanson, cornerback Nevin Lawson, and defensive end Larry Webster in rounds two through four.
