San Francisco 49ers backup running back Kendall Hunter tore his ACL on Friday and will likely miss the 2014 season, according to a team report.

Hunter was drafted by San Francisco in the fourth round in 2011. In three seasons with the 49ers, he has rushed for 1,202 yards and seven touchdowns.​ 

According to Comcast SportsNet's Matt Maiocco, the 25-year-old Oklahoma State alum injured his knee during Friday's practice while catching a swing pass from backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert. Carlos Hyde and Marcus Lattimore are expected to compete for the No. 2 position behind starter Frank Gore. 

Hunter was in the final year of his contract.
