49ers waive/injured running back Kendall Hunter
The 49ers have waived running back Kendall Hunter with the waived/injured designation. If he clears waivers he will be placed on injured reserve.
Hunter tore his ACL last week. Placing him on injured reserve opens up a roster spot for San Francisco, but because it is the preseason, Hunter must pass through waivers before he can go on IR.

Last week, the Patriotsclaimed rookie running back Tyler Gaffney after he was waived/injured by the Panthers. However, as ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio points out, there isn't much incentive for a team to claim Hunter, given that he will be a free agent by the time he is healthy.
The 49ers have six other running backs on their roster: Frank Gore, Jewel Hampton, rookie second-round pick Carlos Hyde, LaMichael James, Alfonso Smith and Marcus Lattimore, who is on the active/non-football injury list.
