Dolphins center Mike Pouncey avoided the regular season PUP list, but doesn't not know when he will return to the field, he said Tuesday.

Pouncey spent all of training camp on the PUP list after undergoing offseason hip surgery to repair a torn labrum.

Reports: Dallas Cowboys could sign Michael Sam

The Dolphins placed Pouncey on the 53-man roster during the final round of preseason cuts, rather than placing him on the regular season PUP list.

If he was placed on the PUP list, he would have been forced to sit out the first six weeks of the season. By adding him to the active roster,  Pouncey can come back whenever he is healthy.

Colts owner Jim Irsay suspended six games, fined $500,000

"The biggest thing about it, when you’re on the PUP, you don’t get to practice or anything with the football team, but that would have set me back too far," Pouncey said. "Obviously, they believe in me to be back in time. They gave me the opportunity and I’m going to take full advantage of it."

Samson Satele will start at center for the Dolphins during Pouncey's absence.
