Last year, the 49ers made the NFC Championship for the third straight season. And for the second time in three years, San Francisco failed to advance to the Super Bowl.

For the third straight year, the Cowboys entered the final game of their 2013 regular season with a shot to make the playoffs, and for the third straight year Dallas failed to obtain a playoff berth. The Cowboys missed the playoffs in 2013 for the eighth time in 11 years.

The Cowboys finished 8-8 in 2013 for the third straight season, missing the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year.

For the third straight season, Dallas had a chance to win the NFC East on the final day of the regular season but failed to do so.
