Report: Kansas City LB Derrick Johnson out for year with torn achilles

Sunday September 7th, 2014

Update: The Chiefs have confirmed Johnson ruptured his Achilles, and also added via Twitter defensive end Mike Devito additionally ruptured his Achilles Sunday. The news almost certainly means the two Kansas City defenders will miss the entire season.

Kansas City Chiefs inside linebacker Derrick Johnson tore his Achilles and is out for the season, according to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport who cited an unnamed team source.

Johnson was carted off the field after an apparent leg injury late in the first half of Sunday's game against the Tennessee Titans.

Johnson is a central component of the Chiefs' defense, leading the team in tackles each of the past four season. . The ten-year NFL veteran had 95 tackles, four and a half sacks, two interceptions and two fumbles recoveries last season for Kansas City.
