ESPN has signed Monday Night Football analyst Jon Gruden to a contract extension through 2021, the network announced Monday. Gruden's broadcast partner, Mike Tirico, announced the deal during halftime of the Bears-Saints game.

Gruden joined ESPN in May 2009, five months after he was fired as head coach of the Buccaneers. Gruden was the head coach of the Raiders from 1998 to 2001. After the 2001 season he was traded to Tampa Bay, where he coached for seven seasons.

Gruden became the youngest coach to win a Super Bowl when he Super Bowl XXXVII with the Bucs at the age of 38. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin has since broken that record.

Gruden also has a series on ESPN where interviews quarterback prospects before the NFL draft.

In recent years, Gruden has been rumored to be interested in several head coaching vacancies. The contract extension will keep Gruden "out of coaching through the remainder of [ESPN's] current NFL rights agreement," the network said.
