He went 7-5 in his final season in the league with Buffalo, which ended with a 17-9 victory over the New England Patriots. He threw for 3,018 yards and 18 touchdowns this season after replacing EJ Manuel in the starting lineup. Manuel and Jeff Tuel are the only quarterbacks currently on the roster heading into the offseason.

"I just have been going at it for 10 years and it’s just a family decision and I’ve decided to get home and be a dad and call it a day," Orton said to the team’s website. "Anytime you have a chance to end on a good note and go home and spend time with family that’s really important to me and my wife and we’re just excited to move on."

Orton, 32, completed 59.5 percent of his passes for 18,037 yards with 101 touchdowns and 69 interceptions in his career. He was originally drafted in the fourth round by the Bears out of Purdue in the 2005 NFL Draft. He started 15 games as a rookie, helping Chicago win the NFC North.
