New England Patriots first-round pick Malcolm Brown said Thursday that Patriots fans are "about to get the best player" they've ever drafted, according to Comcast SportsNet New England.

"Just be ready for when I touch the field," Brown added, when asked if he had any message for Pats fans. New England selected the defensive tackle from Texas with the No. 32 pick in this year's draft.

Over 13 games with the Longhorns last season season, Brown recorded 6.5 sacks, 15 tackles for loss and 72 total tackles.

The 6-foot-2, 320-pound junior was a finalist for the Nagurski Trophy, which is given to the nation's top defensive player, and the Outland Trophy, which goes to the nation's best interior lineman.

SI.com's Chris Burke assigned New England an A for picking Brown, noting that "Brown has the type of versatility that Bill Belichick craves up front—he can play a five-tech, a three-tech or even slide down and play nose."
