Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Jesse Williams was cleared for light workouts two weeks after having surgery to remove one of his kidneys as a result of a cancer diagnosis.

Williams shared the news on Twitter on Thursday and The News Tribunereports that the third-year veteran had surgery on May 28 for papillary type 2 cancer at the University of Washington Medical Center. Two days after doctors removed one of his kidneys, he checked out of the hospital.

Williams, 24, is a Brisbane, Australia, native. The Seahawks drafted him in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL draft out of Alabama—Williams also played at Arizona Western College—but knee injuries kept him out of his first two seasons.
