The NFL draft is long gone and free agency is winding down, but despite a general lull in organized team activities, the NFL rumor mill is still buzzing.

Mini-camp workouts gave teams a chance to see their draft picks and new signings compete against established veterans. The free agents who have yet to sign contracts could end up with new homes soon as the start of training camp looms. Teams expected to contend once again will see if their strengths appear to be carrying over to next season, while teams looking to turnaround losing efforts will see what they have.

• New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paulreportedly injured his hand in a fireworks accident on Satruday. Pierre-Paul has not participated in any of the team’s offseason workouts after being tagged as the team’s franchise player. The Giants have until July 15 to sign Pierre-Paul to a long-term contract.

• Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romosaid he thinks that the team and All-Pro wide receiver Dez Bryant will eventually reach a deal.

• Retired San Francisco 49ers linebacker Chris Borlandtold the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that he is at peace with his decision to retire at age 24.

• Green Bay Packers tight end Andrew Quarlesswas arrested in Miami for firing a gun over the 4th of July weekend. Quarless faces a misdemeanor charge of discharging a firearm in public.

• Minnesota Vikings cornerback Josh Robinsonreportedly suffered a partially torn pectoral muscle before the team’s minicamp in June.
