Darius Slay: Lions, Seahawks defenses aren't much different

Detroit Lions cornerback Darius Slay says that there isn't much difference between his unit and the Seattle Seahawks defense. 

The Seahawks were the league's best defense last season, allowing 15.9 points per game and 267.1 yards per game, both league bests. The Lions were the NFL's No. 2 defense last season, finishing the year ranked second in points and yards per game with 17.6 and 300.9, respectively. 

“We've got the same kind of talent they got. They ain't too much different,” Slay told the Detroit Free Press. “They got a pass rush, they've got DBs, we've got DBs. They've got 'backers, we've got 'backers.”

Detroit's defense will have a new look this season after the departure of star defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh in free agency to the Miami Dolphins. The Lions traded for former Ravens defensive tackle Haloti Ngata to fill Suh's void on the defensive line.

The Lions finished 11-5 last season and lost to the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC wild card round. The Seahawks finished the year 12-4, winning the NFC West and advancing to the Super Bowl before falling to the New England Patriots. 

Slay, who is entering his third year as a pro, started all 16 regular season games for the Lions last year, recording two interceptions and 18 passes defended. 

The Lions' veterans report to training camp on Aug. 2.
