The Chicago Bears have placed safety Ryan Mundy on injured reserve with hip injury, the team announced Sunday.

Mundy, 30, started all 16 games for the Bears last season but is listed as a backup to free-agent addition Antrel Rolle on the preseason depth chart. He led the Bears in tackles and interceptions last season.

Mundy was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2008 and missed his rookie season after fracturing his ankle in a preseason game but returned the following year and has not missed a game since.

The Bears also announced that rookie receiver Kevin White, a first-round pick, has been placed on the physically unable to perform list after having surgery to repair a stress fracture in his left leg.
