FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) New York Jets rookie wide receiver Devin Smith is unlikely to play in the season opener despite fully participating in practice for the first time Friday since breaking ribs in training camp more than a month ago.

Smith is listed as probable on the team's injury report, but coach Todd Bowles says the second-round draft pick out of Ohio State is doubtful to make his NFL debut against the Cleveland Browns. Bowles says Smith needs to get used to wearing pads and be ''game-ready'' before he can play.

Smith was injured while making a catch at practice July 31 and hospitalized with broken ribs and a punctured lung.

Quarterback Geno Smith (broken jaw) is the only player listed as out. He's expected to miss the first four games.
