Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford was benched in favor of backup Dan Orlovsky after throwing three interceptions in Sunday’s game against the Cardinals

Orlovsky had not thrown a regular-season pass since 2012, when he replaced Josh Freeman during a blowout loss for the Buccaneers

Detroit trailed 35–7 when Stafford was pulled from the game midway through the third quarter. Stafford completed 20 of 32 pass attempts for 188 yards, one touchdown and three picks.

The Lions had already lost their first four games, with Stafford throwing five touchdowns and five interceptions in those games.

Orlovsky completed five of his seven passes on his first series, though the drive ended in a punt.
