Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch could have abdominal surgery this week
Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch could have surgery during a visit with a doctor in Philadelphia this week, head coach Pete Carroll told reporters Monday.
Carroll said Sunday that Lynch would see a specialist on Tuesday and that surgery could be necessary.
Lynch will see Dr. William C. Meyers, a sports hernia specialist. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that the team believes Lynch will require sports hernia surgery but hopes to have him back for the playoffs. Seattle doesn’t expect Lynch to play in this week’s game against the Steelers, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Because of the injury, Lynch was inactive for Sunday’s win over the 49ers. He played through the injury in last week’s loss to the Cardinals but was limited to just eight carries.

Thomas Rawls started in Lynch’s place on Sunday and had 30 carries for 209 yards and a touchdown, along with three catches for 46 goals and a receiving touchdown. Rawls also had 169 yards and touchdown on 23 carries in Week 5 against the Bengals.
Lynch, who turns 30 in April, is owed $9 million next season. Before this season, the last time he missed a game due to injury was in 2011.
