Cam Newton helped the Panthers avoid their first loss of the season with a game-winning touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game against the Saints.

Cam Newton helped the Panthers avoid their first loss of the season with a game-winning touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game against the Saints. 

Carolina trailed 38–34 when Newton led an 11-play, 75-yard drive that culminated in a 15-yard touchdown pass to Jerricho Cotchery with 1:05 left to play. 

The touchdown was Newton’s fifth of the game and gave the Panthers a 41–38 lead.

The Saints turned the ball over on downs on the ensuing possession. 

Carolina improved to 12–0 on the season. The Panthers clinched a playoff berth earlier Sunday when the Falcons beat the Buccaneers.
