The NFL playoffs kick off this weekend with the Houston Texans hosting the Kansas City Chiefs and the Cincinnati Bengals going up against the Pittsburgh Steelers. On Saturday, the Bengals will attempt to win their first playoff game since 1990.

• The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced they have fired head coach Lovie Smith. 

• New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton announced that he will stay with the team. Payton had been listening to other coaching opportunities this off-season.

• Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson is contemplating retirement, reports the Detroit Free Press’s Dave Birkett​.

• The Seattle Seahawks expect running back Marshawn Lynch to play and be at “full speed” in the playoffs on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, reports Pro Football Talk.

• Dallas Cowboys players and coaches “began to sour” on defensive end Greg Hardy late in the season due to his off-field distractions and “perpetual tardiness” for team meetings, reports The Dallas Morning News’ Brandon George.

• The Rams heavily criticized the city of St. Louis in their relocation application for Los Angeles, saying any club that signs the proposal in St. Louis would be “well on the road to financial ruin.”
