NFL rumors: Latest news from the playoffs on injuries and more

The NFL Playoffs advance to the divisional round this weekend after all four road teams won their respective wild-card games. The action picks back up on Saturday with the New England Patriots hosting the Kansas City Chiefs, followed by the Arizona Cardinals facing off against the Green Bay Packers. On Sunday, the Seattle Seahawks will visit the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos will host the Pittsburgh Steelers.

• The New York Giants will hire Ben McAdoo as their next head coach, reports NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. McAdoo has been the team’s offensive coordinator for the last two seasons.
• McAdoo was the favorite to land the Philadelphia Eagles’ head coaching job, but the team has now turned its attention to former Giants head coach Tom Coughlin, reports ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
• Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter is rumored to have been promoted as the team’s head coach, reports Pro Football Talk.

• Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch practiced with the team on Wednesday, but he is still questionable to play this weekend against the Panthers, reports NFL.com’s Dan Hanzus. Lynch has been out since Week 10 with an abdominal injury.
• The San Francisco 49ers have “ramped up” their pursuit of former Broncos and Redskins coach Mike Shanahan following their interview with him on Tuesday, reports Rapoport.
• Running back Arian Foster is expected to be released by the Houston Texans, reports the Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson.
• The Cleveland Browns are expected to “move on” from quarterback Johnny Manziel, reports Rapoport.
• Patriots defensive lineman Chandler Jones was hospitalized Sunday due to a bad reaction to synthetic marijuana, reports the Boston Globe’s Christopher Gasper. He has practiced each day this week.
