Denver Broncos guard Evan Mathis criticized former head coach Chip Kelly in an email Monday, reports 9News’ Mike Klis.

The 34-year-old Mathis joined the Broncos last year after spending four seasons with the Eagles and two with Kelly at Philadelphia’s helm. He was released by the Eagles in June after requesting to be let go.

“There were many things that Chip had done that showed me he wasn’t building a championship team,” Mathis wrote in his email. “Two of the main issues that concerned me were: 1. A never-evolving, vanilla offense that forced our own defense to play higher than normal play counts. 2. His impatience with certain personality types even when they were blue-chip talents."

Mathis added that Denver’s Super Bowl 50-winning squad would not have fit well with Kelly.

“The Broncos team I was on would have eaten Chip alive,” Mathis wrote. “I don’t think he could have handled the plethora of large personalities.”

KING: NFL should give picks back to Pats

Kelly, who was fired from his post with the Eagles in December, is now the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.
