Tyrann Mathieu discusses violence in New Orleans after Will Smith shooting
After the shooting death of former Saints player Will Smith, Cardinals safety and New Orleans native Tyrann Mathieu appeared on NFL Network to discuss the issue of violence in his home city.
“The violence in New Orleans is erupting and it’s continuing to grow at an alarming rate,” Mathieu said. “This happens time and time again, and most of the time it gets overlooked.”
“I think the culture is just so bad down there,” Mathieu continued. “I think most people think that killing is a cool thing and I don’t know how you justify taking another man’s life.”

Mathieu also spoke about what he wants to do to help young people in New Orleans.
Earlier Monday, Mathieu sent several tweets about violence in New Orleans and Smith’s death.
Smith, 34, was shot Saturday night after a traffic accident and pronounced dead at the scene. His wife, Racquel, was hospitalized with two bullet wounds in her leg. The alleged shooter, 28-year-old Cardell Hayes, was arrested on second-degree murder charges and held on $1 million bond.
